6 Reasons to Love Virginia Beach

Thousands flock to Virginia Beach every year to visit the lively seaside resort, complete with natural wonders, beautiful beaches, and one of the best festival scenes along the U.S. eastern coastline. It’s no wonder why so many love Virginia Beach and here are a few of the reasons why we love it here as well!

The beach

One of the many reasons to love Virginia Beach is its beautiful beaches. Spanning for miles, golden sand meets the Atlantic Ocean with the Virginia Beach Boardwalk running alongside. The Boardwalk reaches for three miles and offers opportunities for cycling, running, and rollerblading, plus plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from. One of the best ways to enjoy the beach is with an early morning wake up call to catch the sunrise over the ocean and a chance to see a dolphin in the distance.

Looking for a budget-friendly hotel near the beach and boardwalk? Consider a stay at the Sundial Inn. Located at the corner of 21st and Pacific Avenue, we are just minutes away from it all!

Climb a historic lighthouse

Gain a new perspective of Virginia Beach with a climb to the top of the Cape Henry Lighthouse. While modern-day Virginia Beach is filled with high-rise hotels and buildings, there is still a bit of history to be found on one of its military bases. At Fort Story military base, visitors will find two lighthouses. The original Cape Henry Lighthouse is the fourth oldest in the country, and the newer lighthouse sits next door and still operates today, helping passing ships navigate the waters. The original lighthouse is open to the public and offers 360-degree views of Virginia Beach.

Beer scene

It’s no secret the Virginia Beach is home to a thriving craft beer scene. You won’t go thirsty with over 10 breweries in the area to choose from including favorites like Back Bay Brewing, Pleasure House Brewing, and the Commonwealth Brewing Company. Or discover your favorite beer at one of the many beer festivals in Virginia Beach.

Oysters and crabs

With its coastal location, it’s no wonder Virginia Beach produces some of the most succulent oysters and crabs in the country. Virginia Beach offers some of the finest oysters in the Atlantic and is a staple at most restaurants in town. Another popular seafood choice is crab. From May to September, soft-shell blue crabs are found plentiful in the Chesapeake Bay. You will find both oysters and crabs served in different ways, from deep-fried to surf and turf with burgers and steaks. Start your seafood journey with a taste at Waterman’s or Chix on the Beach.

Music festivals

Most likely, when traveling to Virginia Beach, you will find something going on. Whether it’s a music festival, art festival, or a sand-sculpting contest, there is always a party happening in Virginia Beach. One of the biggest events is the Neptune Festival. Celebrate the beach life with a weekend full of live music, food, art, and the International Sand Sculpting Competition.

Scenic State Parks

One of the reasons we love Virginia Beach is its unspoiled natural landscape, which can mostly be found at either one of its state parks. First Landing State Park and False Cape State Park both boast miles of natural coastline, with marshes, lagoons, aquatic forests, and sandy beaches. Each offers ample opportunity for outdoor adventures including, hiking, biking, kayaking, and more.
