Beach season may be over, but harvest time in Virginia is something you don’t want to miss. Plan a weekend getaway and start exploring Hampton Roads in the fall with some of these must-do activities.
Wine Festivals
Fall in Virginia is a wine lover’s paradise. Hampton Roads is home to the annual Town Point Virginia Fall Wine Festival that draws thousands of visitors every year. Enjoy a weekend of craft pours with friends or bring the kids for fun without the alcohol. Most every weekend during the season, you can find a different wine-centered festival to attend, no wonder Virginia has been named one of the ten best wine travel destinations in the world.
Cider Tasting
Cider is a big deal in Virginia. Visit one of the many cideries in the area, like Sly Clyde Ciderworks, and learn a little more about the history of cider in Virginia. Tour a taproom or two before sitting down and enjoying a flight of unique craft ciders.
Pumpkin & Apple Picking
Nothing says fall like a pumpkin, and nothing says fall in Virginia like apples. Bring the kiddos and head to local Cullipher Farm, pick farm fresh apples right from the orchard, and peruse the pumpkin patches for the perfect jack o’lantern.
Corn Maze
There’s something about corn mazes that Virginians can’t get enough of. Try your luck at the annual Bergey’s Breadbasket corn maze. Conquer the confusing course and reward yourself with sweet autumn treat fresh from the bakery.
Hiking
Enjoy the cooler temperatures and transitioning autumn scenery with a hike through one of the many parks and trails in the region. Give the famous Cape Henry Trail a try for six miles of woods, beaches, and wildlife. For a less strenuous hike, go to Bald Cypress Trail and walk the 1.6-mile loop overlooking the Virginia wetlands. Enjoy beautiful colors of fall on the tree-lined trail loop at Lake Lawson.
Amusement Park
Take the family for an exciting day at one of our amusement parks. Hampton Roads is home to several family-friendly parks perfect for a fall visit, such as Busch Gardens, Great Wolf Lodge, the Adventure Park at the aquarium, and more.
