Our Favorite Virginia Beach Hiking Trails

While you may think Virginia Beach is home to nothing but beach activities, hiking through the scenic forest nature is also a must-do when visiting! Endless amounts of greenery and wildlife surround you, and it’s all waiting for you in the many hiking trails within parks like First Landing State Park. Discover our favorite Virginia Beach hiking trails for your next beach getaway.

Located at First Landing State Park:

Cape Henry Trail

This trail is fairly easy but can take a good portion of time to hike through! Cape Henry Trail is mostly paved with unique views of the Virginia Beach flora and fauna. The 10 miles also have opportunities to stop for a sight of hills and sand dunes.

Bald Cypress Trail

If you are looking for ample shade during your hike, Bald Cypress Trail is perfect for you. The loop is short and only takes about 30 minutes to complete. You will be able to walk atop the swampland on the paved trail and have a good chance of seeing turtles resting on some logs.

First Landing Loop Trail

The First Landing Loop Trail has access to intersections into other trails within the park! You have many types of terrains like gravel and sand to walk through, all with great sights of the various scenic habitats. It is another long trail, so make sure to plan accordingly for the 8.5-mile loop!

Located at Pleasure House Point Natural Area:

Pleasure House Point Loop

Pleasure House Point Loop is home to a 2.3-mile loop trail with gorgeous views of the water and forested areas. The scenic and relaxing trails are surrounded by flora like vibrant flowers and cacti. There are beach areas along the trail too, perfect for a break to take in more of the sights!

Located at Lake Lawson/Lake Smith Natural Area:

Lake Lawson Loop Trail

Not only do you have opportunities to hike through Lake Lawson Loop Trail, but you can fish as well in the lake area. The 1.6-mile loop trail is all along the lake, surrounded by unique nature.
